iPhone Duo Reportedly Resold for $5,000 on eBay After Selling Out

An iPhone Duo has apparently already changed hands on eBay for as much as $5,000, just hours after Apple’s own shipping estimates for the foldable slipped into 2027. As MacRumors reports, the listing was spotted by Vadim Yuryev of the YouTube channel Max Tech.

The listing marked as sold is for an iPhone Duo in Night Sky with 2TB of storage. Apple sells that configuration for $3,199 in the U.S., which would put the resale premium at roughly $1,800 if the sale went through at the listed price. A second eBay listing, for a “confirmed pre-order” of a 1TB Night Sky model, is also marked as sold, at $4,400. Apple charges $2,599 for that version, again implying an $1,800 markup.

It is worth treating those figures with some caution. A listing marked as sold on eBay does not by itself prove that a buyer paid the full amount or that the transaction was completed, and two listings are not a reliable picture of where the resale market will settle. Pre-order resales also carry obvious risk, since the seller does not yet have the phone in hand.

The timing explains why sellers are trying their luck. iPhone Duo pre-orders opened at 5 a.m. Pacific Time today, and within about 30 minutes Apple’s U.S. online store was showing a January 25 shipping date for every configuration, according to MacRumors. That effectively takes the device off the table as a holiday gift through Apple’s website. Apple Store pickup was also disabled, with customers told to check back on Saturday, October 24.

Apple has confirmed that the iPhone Duo goes on sale Friday, October 23 in the U.S. and more than 70 other countries and regions, with pricing starting at $1,999. Reports ahead of launch suggested supply would be constrained, with one supply chain source telling China’s Jiemian News that final assembly yields were only slightly above 60 percent in September. Apple has not commented on those claims.

Resale spikes are common in the first days after a hot Apple launch and tend to fade as inventory improves. If Apple’s supply problems are as serious as rumored, though, the iPhone Duo’s gray market premium could stick around longer than usual.
