iOS 27.2 Is Out: Siri AI Adds Five Languages, Apple Softens Its Tracking Prompt in Germany
Apple released iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2 on Monday, the first major update to this year’s operating systems. The biggest change is that Siri AI now works beyond English, and in Germany Apple has rewritten its App Tracking Transparency prompt to settle a competition case, heise online reports.
Apple skipped straight from 27.0.1 to 27.2. Version 27.1 was reserved for the iPhone Duo, which can now move to 27.2 along with every other iPhone that runs iOS 27, according to MacRumors.
Siri AI adds five languages
In a newsroom post, Apple said Siri AI is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, with Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese coming by the end of the year. German isn’t on either list. Siri AI remains in beta, needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later, and is still unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS and in mainland China; Apple says it is “working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward.”
Siri AI also picks up a memory of past conversations and can draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and Safari history and Reading List. A redesigned Excluded Apps setting lets users block apps from Siri, Search and suggestions in one place, per Apple’s release notes as published by MacRumors and Ars Technica.
A softer tracking prompt in Germany
To resolve a proceeding by Germany’s Bundeskartellamt, Apple is toning down the App Tracking Transparency dialog there: developers can add their own explanatory text and re-ask users every 12 months, and the word “tracking” no longer appears, heise reports. The same changes apply in France, Italy, Poland and Romania to close competition cases in those countries. The new dialogs are optional elsewhere in the EU, and the old prompt stays outside the EU. The underlying permission system doesn’t change. Apple also promises simpler installs of apps from the web, other apps and alternative stores in the EU, with fewer confirmation steps.
Other additions
The update brings Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo, suggested actions in Messages such as adding a dinner to Calendar, Simple Profiles in the Apple TV app, a new Apple Music icon and SynthID watermark support for spotting AI-generated images. HomePod software 27.2 adds a touch-surface lock and new light effects. Security researchers had shown a full jailbreak of iOS 27.0.1 on current hardware, so heise recommends updating promptly; Apple is also patching macOS 26 and 15.
